Welcome to Silk & Jade Collection! I'm Mariette, CEO and Founder. The idea for Silk & Jade came 6 months after having given birth to my beautiful daughter. At the time I was overcome with anxiety that my 12 month maternity leave from work was almost coming to an end. The thought of having to put my daughter into full-time daycare and be away from her for the majority of the day pained me. For months, I kept racking my brain on how I can change that and then it happened... my daughter pulled my hair.

She pulled my hair so hard that a few strands came out. Now that she figured out her pincer grasp, she kept repeatedly doing it any chance she got. I eventually had to put up my hair in a ponytail or bun, everyday, all day. My material of choice was one of those plastic coil hair ties or black elastics that EVERY girl has dozens of.  However, wearing those everyday, all day, gave me tension headaches. And at the end of the day when I took off the hair tie, a handful strands of hair came along with it. I was already losing so much hair due to postpartum symptoms so seeing this every day was disheartening to say the least. 

So off to the fabric store I went. I purchased some silk and made my own scrunchie. Because silk is a smooth material, it's gentle material causes less friction, minimalizing tangling and pulling. Basically, it felt like heaven on my head. No more tension headaches and no more hair loss! It was a godsend. Every woman should have one I thought.

And that's how the idea for Silk & Jade Collection was born. My daughters middle name is Jade. I thought it was fitting to include her in the business name because if it wasn't for her pulling my hair that one fateful night, Silk & Jade Collection wouldn't have been conceived.
